what should have been a simple mission has turned into something far more dire. an attack has befallen team rocket's drilling rig, threats coming in the form of PARADOX POKEMON.[break][break]

the only two grunts assigned do their best to hold them off, engaged in battle.[break][break]

he calls out to Rhys Collins, alerting them to the GREAT TUSK that heads their way.

Rhys whirls frantically, breaking his Goodra from its occupation with a Roaring Moon to send him surging toward the Great Tusk in a BODY SLAM that slows the approach of the enormous creature at the cost of splattering Goodra's slime across the rocky ground. Charming.

He was getting incredibly tired of the myriad and wondrous things coming out of the Great Chasm and Area Zero, as most of them, he had determined, were ultimately hazardous to his health.

The rig spits and coughs concerningly, but keeps up some kind of operation, and that's good enough for the doctor as he glances toward Dane, eyes widening in alarm. "Robot butterfly thing on your six!"

his confusion is drowned out by the IRON MOTH that flutters in behind him, approaching with deadly intent only to be thwarted by cacturne's NEEDLE ARM.[break][break]

realizing the situation they're in, dane looks over at Rhys Collins before deciding,[break][break]

"sorry, but we need the cover."[break][break]

cacturne's SANDSTORM picks up, and they soon find themselves in the thick of it.

Rhys grins, vindicated, as his Goodra breaks the stalemate he's in with a DRAGON PULSE that sends the Great Tusk staggering back. His brief satisfaction is quickly soured as - at least with an apology - his companion stirs up a sandstorm around them.

He can't fault the guy, he's used similar tactics on missions down here, but it doesn't make the stinging particles any more pleasant to deal with. Fortunately, the swarm of Paradox pokemon surrounding them are suffering the same deficits, and Vaughn takes the opportunity to send a pair of Scream Tails sailing away in a torrent of MUDDY WATER.

"Good call," he grunts to the other man, "Now we just gotta get these things away from the rig before it dies down. Practically a normal Tuesday at this point.

Rhys scowls at nothing in particular - these snap decisions are coming more and more frequently, these days, and he's tired of the pressure of making the wrong choice.

The wrong choice, though, would be to try and pick the herd of Paradox pokemon off, he feels. An unknown number, only two Grunts defending, and that's not to say what else might happen if more pokemon decided to join the fracas.

Digging into his satchel, he recalls his Goodra and replaces it with his ghostly Zoroark, growling instructions to it.
[break][break]
Between one moment and the next, the pokemon is replaced with an identical - albeit smirking - copy of Rhys himself, down to the stain on the collar of his coat from lunch.
[break][break]
With a nod, the fake Rhys takes off at a sprint out of the sandstorm, buzzing past a Scream Tail that wails loudly, whirling to pursue him.

though nothing is communicated, at least not verbally, he's able to see vague shapes through the thick of the SANDSTORM, understanding enough to follow Rhys Collins's lead.[break][break]

his hand lowers by his side once his cacturne looks back at him, the order understood.[break][break]

an area of the SANDSTORM lessens, fading enough to showcase the copy of Rhys Collins running away. and sure enough, the swarm follows.

Releasing a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, Rhys relaxes slightly as the swarm of Paradox pokemon follow his diversion. With any luck, Everard would be able to lead them away long enough for Dane and Rhys to deal with the surveying machine, and getting back?

Well, he'd come back at some point, surely.

He raises his voice to be heard over the continuing sandstorm. "That should buy us some time at least, what's the endgame with this thing?"{/b] He waves generally in the vicinity of the rig.

He watches the swarm fade into the distance, mentally noting to treat Everard to something nice upon his return. The Zoroark has a personality almost as prickly as Rhys's, but he can't deny a job well done.

Turning to Dane, he pulls his phone out of his satchel and nods. "That's the immediate threat gone, anyway. I'll send in a report and hopefully it's clear enough for the rock guys to come in and finish this up. Thanks for the cover, I don't think I could have handled that myself if I'm honest."
